Software engineering

The idea of a computer programmer is a thing of the past. Today, designing software is a area of engineering, and it goes way beyond the simple idea of writing code from a keyboard. Some of these engineers work for software companies that create software products for the general market, but there are many software engineers that design custom programs for specific applications of a business.

Manufacturing engineering

This type of engineer utilizes a variety of skills and knowledge found in engineering. Therefore, it overlaps with several engineering disciplines. The foundation of this type of work is to design and maintain equipment for production and do so in a way that creates a low cost method of production. This includes employing equipment in such a way as to maximize production with as little downtime as possible. In order to achieve this, there are needs for skills in computers, software, mathematics, and often a strong understanding of mechanical engineering. As long as there are factories in production, there will always be a need for this type of engineer.
