Smach has announced that the Smach Zero will be available to pre-order from 10 November, but is not expected to ship until the fourth quarter of 2016. It is set to be the first handheld console for Steam, and you will be able to play more than 1,000 games from the Steam library from day one.

Steamboy

Smach has come up with a handheld, portable console that runs SteamOS, so will allow you to play Steam games while you’re out and about. Originally named Steamboy but recently renamed Smach Zero, the console is set to arrive next year, so here is all of the information you need to know.

The reason the pre-order is starting so early is because other Steam Machines from Alienware and Cyberpower are set to hit the shelves on that same day. Still, a year-long pre-order period seems a bit extreme to us. the Smach Zero has touch pads on ether side of the screen, a control stick, seven buttons on the front and six buttons on the back.

It’s designed to feel similar to using Valve’s official Steam Controller, and those touch pads look a lot like the ones found on the original Steam Controller. Strangely, we do not know what size the battery inside the Smach Zero is, which could be make or break for this product. It needs to be long enough to keep us entertained for several hours between charging.

We know that the Smach Zero is set to be available at an introductory price of $299 or 299 Euros, but we aren’t entirely sure what the UK price will be. A direct translation from dollars would be £190, and from Euros would be £215, but maybe it is more likely to have a price tag of £299 as is often the case with technology pricing.
